Guangdong – the capital of China’s food and drink production

Due to the impressive spread of processed food and drink products in the Chinese market, the industry of processing and packaging technology has experienced high growth rates since its establishment 20 years ago. In 2006 this industry realised an annual production value of USD 11 billion. Forecasts from the China Food and Packaging Machinery Industry Association predict an annual sales value of food processing and packaging machinery of USD 17.6 billion in 2010. The association identifies convenient food, meat and beverage processing and packaging as most potential branches within this industry.

Affiliated with the strong growth of the national processing and packaging industry, the global relevance also increases constantly. Due to the lack of state-of-the-art technology in important sectors of the food and drink processing chain, the Chinese market relies on international high-tech solutions. The import of related machinery and equipment amounted more than USD 2 billion in 2006 and is expected to further increase in upcoming years.
